HCV Homeownership Program

FOR HOUSING CHOICE VOUCHER (HCV) RECIPIENTS

Must be an active Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) participant.

Must meet income requirements for home ownership.

Minimum one (1) year full-time employment.

Minimum $1,000 in savings.

Must qualify for a conventional mortgage.

​Other homeownership requirements apply.
 The Detroit Housing Commision's Housing Choice Voucher Home Ownership Program provides direct subsidy assistance toward renting.
Employment requirements may be waived for elderly and disabled residents who qualify.

Michigan State Housing Authority (MSHDA) Foreclosure Prevention Programs
  1. Unemployment Mortgage Subsidy Program          Provides monthly mortgage payment assistance while borrowers are drawing unemployment compensation.
  2. Loan Rescue Program – Property Tax Assistance Assistance to households that have fallen behind on their mortgage or property tax and need help catching up.
  3. Principal Curtailment or Modification Plan Program    Help for homeowners who are in unsustainable mortgages and who have a reduced income level.

Distressed Owner-Occupant Extension Program (DOOE)
  • A foreclosure protection payment plan that extends time to pay off property taxes.

Housing Choice Voucher program (Section 8) waiting list open enrollment begins Wednesday, April 25, 2018 @12:01 a.m. and closes Thursday, April 26, 2018 @11:59 p.m. Applications may use the same link to verify their registration status on Friday, April 27, 2018 after 1:00 p.m.  Information required: includes the full name, date of birth, and social security numbers of all household members.  Applications must also provide their total gross annual income information including SSI/SSD wages, food stamps, child support, and other continuous income.  Minimum income eligibility criteria apply.  A valid address and phone number must be submitted for further contact and correspondence if needed.  One (1) application per household.  Applications accepted online only.
